Pastor Sherry Adams began working with Principal John Woitenko in the late 1980’s to establish a “Kids Klub” in the Canora neighbourhood for the children of Brightview Elementary School.  Soon after, annual backpack school supply give-aways and a Christmas Hamper program were started to bless the kids of Brightview and their families.  These programs provided an ongoing connection with Brightview Elementary and many families in Canora.  In 2007, the Kids of Promise Creative Arts Academy was birthed to provide low-cost art and music program to the kids in the neighbourhood. Kids of Promise incorporated as a non-profit society in 2009 with an emphasis on after-school programs, summer camps and youth leadership development.

2 major developments occurred in 2011-2012.  In 2011, Daniel Saison came on as the full-time Program Director for Kids of Promise bringing high-level music and artistic skills and years of experience working in youth and children programs.  The next year, the West End Outreach Centre underwent a major renovation with a venue enhancement geared to accommodate the art, music and drama programs of Kids of Promise, giving Kids of Promise one of the finest facilities for children’s programming in the city.

In 2013, Kids of Promise committed to the educational philosophy of building moral intelligence (see vision and values) and in 2014 Kids of Promise made a commitment to provide all of it’s after-school, art/music/drama summer camps and pre-school art programs free of charge.
